This group will be meeting at Temple Beth El’s Schaefer Family Campus once a week. \nFor those who have lost someone other than a spouse\, life partner or parent; JFS has other groups in the area.  Please fill out the form and someone from JFS will get in touch with you. \nTwo times: 10:00 am and 11:15 am. DESCRIPTION:Taught by Cantor Josh Breitzer \nOn Shabbat Shira\, we recount the Exodus from Egypt and the ancient tune our people sang on the shores of the sea. Throughout Yom Kippur\, we count our shortcomings by tapping our hearts in time to a version of that same tune. How can this be? Explore tshe musical connection between two starkly contrasting sacred occasions and consider its implications for us today. \nCantor Josh Breitzer is president of the American Conference of Cantors and has served Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn since his 2011 ordination from Hebrew Union College. Named by The Forward as a leading voice of Jewish music\, Cantor Breitzer has sung and taught in communities throughout North America and around the world. Cantor Breitzer is an instructor at HUC and on faculty at URJ Crane Lake Camp. SUMMARY:Shugar Family Introduction to Judaism Program
DESCRIPTION:Interested in a deeper understanding of the basics of Jewish life or thinking about converting to Judaism? Then Temple Beth El’s Introduction to Judaism class might be for you. This 18-session weekly course taught by our clergy with other experts in the community covers topics such as holidays\, customs\, life-cycle events\, values\, theology\, prayers and rituals\, Jewish texts\, history\, and Hebrew. \nIntroduction to Judaism is open to Jews and non-Jews alike. Often\, a Jewish partner\, friend\, or family member will choose to accompany the prospective convert to the classes. This class is also useful for non-Jews who do not intend to convert but are interested in learning more about Judaism. It is also helpful for people who were born and raised as Jews but feel as though they never received a solid Jewish education. All are welcome. \nPlease note: this is not a drop-in course.
