SUMMARY:Reverse Tashlich: A Beach Clean-up with a Purpose
DESCRIPTION:For thousands of years\, in a ritual called Tashlich\, Jews around the world have symbolically cast their sins into a body of water at the High Holy Days. For over 60 years\, humans have been throwing their sins\, trash and debris into bodies of water as well. Now\, the Jewish community is taking those sins out of the water with this clean-up\, turning reflection into responsibility – transforming repentance into tangible healing for the planet. \nJoin Temple Beth El\, Tikkun HaYam\, and Jewish communities around the world for a meaningful gathering in Deerfield Beach as we observe a Reverse Tashlich – an opportunity to symbolically and literally cleanse our environment. We’ll begin with a brief Tashlich service\, followed by a beach clean-up to express our commitment to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and caring for our marine ecosystem. \nParticipants should bring a towel\, sunscreen and water. Dress appropriately for a beach clean-up. Metered parking is available across the street. \nRegister\nFor any questions\, please contact Elinor Josephson at EJosephson@tbeboca.org.

SUMMARY:L'Taken - Teen Social Justice Seminar in Washington DC
DESCRIPTION:L’Taken means “to repair” in Hebrew\, and\, in partnership with the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC)\, teens will have the opportunity to impact and begin to repair our country as they share their views on social justice topics with decision-makers on Capitol Hill. This trip will be led by Rabbi Greg Weisman.\n \nThe weekend will give teens the knowledge and tools to write an effective\, persuasive and passionate speech on a topic of their choice to present to our Senators and Representatives. This unique experience can have a significant impact on the course of legislation\, as members of Congress have chosen to co-sponsor\, offer amendments to\, and vote for pieces of legislation that participants discussed.\n \nProgramming will expose teens to a range of topics\, eventually encouraging them to focus on a single issue about which they are particularly passionate. Throughout the weekend\, teens will have the opportunity to attend programs on a range of topics including Israel\, the environment\, reproductive rights\, LGBTQ+ rights\, antisemitism and economic justice\, and more.    \nThe group will also have the opportunity to visit various Smithsonian museums and the National Mall and celebrate havdallah at a national monument with fellow Reform Jews from across the US devoted to pursuing tikkun olam.\n \nPrice: $250 – This does not include airfare and students will pay for 1 meal a day on their own. This program is being generously supported by Temple Beth El’s social justice efforts.\nPlease note: Space is limited! \nRegister Today! Together\, we can fulfill the commandment of Tzedek\, tzedek tirdof\, justice\, justice you shall pursue (Deuteronomy 16:20).

SUMMARY:Souls to the Polls
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with DISC of Pearl City\, an interracial social change organization\, the Jewish Community Relations Council of South Palm Beach County\, and the churches in Pearl City\, Temple Beth El is welcoming all to participate in Souls to the Polls as the Black and Jewish communities stand shoulder to shoulder to exercise our fundamental right to vote. \nOur tradition teaches that “A leader should not be appointed until the community is consulted” (Talmud Brachot 55a). Expressing our desires through voting is the most fundamental American right\, and is especially important for minority groups. \nOn Sunday\, October 27 at 1:30pm we will gather in Pearl City at Ebenezer Baptist Church for an Early Voting Rally at 1:30 pm. We will hear from Rabbi Greg Weisman\, the Reverend Ronald L. Brown and community leaders including the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link. At 2:00 pm\, as a group\, we will walk to an Early Voting Site and stand together in fellowship and community to take our turn to cast our ballot. \nIn addition to registering to participate\, we are looking for volunteers willing to drive folks between the nearby polling site and Pearl City. \nRegister\nClick here to confirm your voter registration status.
