SUMMARY:Understanding the Ideals and Realities of Islam - Wisdom & Wonder Series with Rabbi Michael Paley
DESCRIPTION:The Arab world and the People of Islam has become an everyday concern for us as Jews and as Americans. Words like Hamas\, Sunni and Shi’a are commonplace but what do they mean? Our session will be devoted to telling the origin story of Islam in a way that will also engage Jewish history and tradition. We will learn about how and why Islam grew so fast and what happened when it confronted the modern world. Terms and perspectives will be clarified and put into a broader context to help us understand the ideals and realities in Islam. \nRabbi Paley earned graduate degrees in Jewish and Islamic Philosophy and Science at Temple University. \nRegister

SUMMARY:Shabbat Evening Services: Are We the Ever Dying People? A Case Study in Jewish Resilience with Rabbi Michael Paley (Wisdom & Wonder Series)
DESCRIPTION:We’re so sorry\, this event has reached capacity. For any questions\, please contact Susie Federman at SFederman@tbeboca.org . Thank you. \n6:00 pm Shabbat Services\nFollowed by Optional Dinner and Learning with Rabbi Michael Paley \nRabbi Michael Paley\, our Wisdom & Wonder speaker\, will participate in our Shabbat Evening Service. \nIn 1967\, Prof. Simon Rawidowicz’s article\, “Israel: The Ever Dying People” was published 10 years after his death. The 1950’s had been a time of Jewish optimism but around the Six Day War fear had returned to the Jewish community. The essay focused on how every generation of Jews feels they are the last ones. Antisemitism\, pogroms\, expulsions and assimilation were always about to overcome us. In our times\, we are no different. So how did we not only survive but thrive? Together we will explore the challenges of the post Holocaust\, post-Communist Hungarian Jewish community as a case study of Jewish innovation and resilience. \nDinner and Learning Experience Pricing: \nMembers: $35 per person\nGuests of Members: $40 per person\nPrices increase by $5 per person as of Monday\, January 5.\n*REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.  \nRegister\n\nLivestream YouTube Facebook
