SUMMARY:L'Taken - Teen Social Justice Seminar in Washington DC
DESCRIPTION:L’Taken means “to repair” in Hebrew\, and\, in partnership with the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC)\, teens will have the opportunity to impact and begin to repair our country as they share their views on social justice topics with decision-makers on Capitol Hill. This trip will be led by Rabbi Greg Weisman.\n \nThe weekend will give teens the knowledge and tools to write an effective\, persuasive and passionate speech on a topic of their choice to present to our Senators and Representatives. This unique experience can have a significant impact on the course of legislation\, as members of Congress have chosen to co-sponsor\, offer amendments to\, and vote for pieces of legislation that participants discussed.\n \nProgramming will expose teens to a range of topics\, eventually encouraging them to focus on a single issue about which they are particularly passionate. Throughout the weekend\, teens will have the opportunity to attend programs on a range of topics including Israel\, the environment\, reproductive rights\, LGBTQ+ rights\, antisemitism and economic justice\, and more.    \nThe group will also have the opportunity to visit various Smithsonian museums and the National Mall and celebrate havdallah at a national monument with fellow Reform Jews from across the US devoted to pursuing tikkun olam.\n \nPrice: $250 – This does not include airfare and students will pay for 1 meal a day on their own. This program is being generously supported by Temple Beth El’s social justice efforts.\nPlease note: Space is limited! \nRegister Today! Special guest scholar Rabbi Lisa Grushcow will share a 19th Century Interfaith Story: Two Scottish Sisters and a Scholarly Rabbi. \nRabbi Lisa Grushcow was ordained at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and served on the clergy team at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in New York City\, before coming to be senior rabbi of Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom in 2012. Born and raised in Canada\, her BA is from McGill University\, and she earned her master’s and doctoral degrees at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Beginning with the Jewish-Christian-Muslim conference in Bendorf\, Germany\, Rabbi Grushcow has a long history of interfaith bridge-building\, and is currently involved with the Solidarity Dialogues in Montreal and is actively engaged in Jewish pluralism. \nJoin us in person at the Schaefer Family Campus or watch online. \n\nLivestream YouTube Facebook
