Life Cycle

At Temple Beth El, we celebrate, grieve, heal and grow together as a community through all seasons of life. Arrange a celebration or meaningful event at Temple Beth El by contacting our clergy office.

Celebrate a Birth

The celebration of the birth of a child is an awesome, transcendent spiritual experience. The Talmud reminds us that there are three partners in the creation of a child – the mother, the father, and God. Jewish tradition seeks to celebrate this partnership in creation, the miracle of life, and the ongoing commitment we share with God as partners in the covenant of Israel.

Convert to Judaism

Temple Beth El is committed to welcoming all who seek to be part of our community – those who began their Jewish journeys at birth, and those who have become part of our people along the way. We seek to help all members of our congregation, fully Jewish families as well as interfaith families, to build Jewish homes and to celebrate the beauty of Jewish life.

Temple Beth El offers a wide array of programs, workshops, and classes to help those who are not Jewish, those who may be new to Judaism, and those who feel disconnected to their Jewish heritage to feel more integrated into the congregation and community. As always, the rabbis invite you to meet with them personally for counsel and advice in pursuing your own spiritual quest.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Temple Beth El’s unparalleled Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah Program provides each child with the opportunity to discover and hone his or her own unique talents and interests. The preparation culminates with an individual Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah ceremony reflecting each student’s personal strengths.  Individualized tutoring that begins about a year prior to the Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah date is part of our comprehensive Jewish education approach.

Celebrate Confirmation

The Shavuot Confirmation Service is the culmination of a year of study in which 10th grade students explore and develop their own commitment to the covenant with the Jewish people.  A weekend Confirmation Retreat is held during that year in which students create and build respect for self and others in their class and the greater community.

Plan Your Wedding

Your engaged! Mazel tov! When a couple becomes engaged, we encourage you to contact us immediately so that we can share in your joy and assist you in choosing a wedding date. There are certain dates on the Hebrew calendar where a wedding is not permitted including holidays and festivals, certain fast days, and days of mourning. Temple Beth El’s clergy love to share in wedding celebrations, and meet with couples on several occasions prior to the ceremony to plan your wedding and for pre-marital counseling.

Yizkor & Yahrzeit

Yizkor is a synagogue memorial service that is held four times a year – Yom Kippur, Shemini Atzeret (after Sukkot), Passover, and Shavuot – in which we remember our loved ones, no matter how long ago the person died.

Yahrzeit is the observance of the anniversary of the date of death.  While traditionally the yahrzeit follows the Hebrew calendar, Temple Beth El can also follow the secular calendar.

Loss of a Loved One

One of the greatest privileges for our congregation is to help members walk along the path of mourning. Through caring for the loss of a loved one we want to be with you as you begin this process and to help you understand Jewish tradition at this difficult period in life.
