A Reform Rabbi Conducting Military Funerals in Israel with Rabbi David Azoulay

Thursday, March 21 | 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Typically, military funerals in Israel are conducted by the Rabbanut, or Orthodox rabbis. Rabbi David Azoulay will be discussing his experience doing this as a reform rabbi instead. He presented this topic at the URJ in Israel and will be presenting it at the CCAR.

Rabbi David Azoulay is a newly ordained Israeli Reform Rabbi, serving at our sister congregation YOZMA in Modi’in, Israel. Along with Rabbi Nir Barkin, he is one of the spiritual leaders in a congregation which has faced unimaginable hardships since October 7th. Rabbi Azoulay is the recipient of the President’s Fellowship from HUC-JIR, and with this prestigious honor, he was able to spend time with our community last year, and will return again beginning March 15 for just over a week. We look forward to welcoming him, to learning from him, and in turn, to be a source of comfort and strength for him during these turbulent times. As always, we stand in solidarity with Israel and feel honored to have an opportunity to support him and the important work he does on behalf of the Reform Movement and all of the people of Israel.
