Lunch & Learn: Decoding the Machzor: Making Meaning of the High Holy Day Liturgy

Tuesday, August 12, 2025 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Taught by Rabbi Ashira Boxman

Together, we will open the Machzor and explore the most powerful and familiar prayers of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. As we prepare for the High Holy Days, this journey will deepen our connection to the words we recite and uncover layers of meaning that can inspire a more intentional and heartfelt experience of the season.

  • Lesson 1: Hineni & Unataneh Tokef – Preparing to Stand Before God: Fear, Awe, and Personal Resonance
  • Lesson 2: Avinu Malkeinu & Divine Imagery – Struggling with Metaphors of Judgment and Mercy
  • Lesson 3: Vidui & Al Chet – What Do We Confess, and Why? Collective vs. Individual Responsibility
  • Lesson 4: Neilah & the Final Moment – The Gates are Closing: What Does that Mean to Each of Us?
